Friday Favorites - The Chocolate Swirl

DISCLAIMER: I've known the proprietor of The Chocolate Swirl both as a friend and a colleague for few years now. Biased? Perhaps. But sweet is sweet. And her work is sweet!

I met Lisa when she was interning on a job I was on a few years back. As part of an office party she brought in these handmade chocolate truffles that were to die for. There is no denying the Sweet Tooth. She made all sorts of different flavors, some coated with nuts or coconut, or drizzled with other chocolate. Just thinking about it conjures up pictures of an entranced and drooling Homer Simpsons mumbling, “Ummmm, chocolate.”

Thankfully, Lisa got out of the business we were working in and and went into confections, and the world is a sweeter place for it. While it may have started with the truffle, still a staple of The Chocolate Swirl, she hasn't stopped there. She also does these incredible cakes that are as creative and artful as they are delicious. And there are cookies, cupcakes, brownie pops. If it's sweet, good to eat, and involves chocolate, she does it!

Now, she does all sorts of treats for all sorts of for all sorts of occasions. In keeping with the wedding theme, I'm going to focus on this for a bit. For my own wedding we got some of the famed truffles for the wedding favors. I'd like to say that my husband and I thought long and hard about the favors, but we didn't. It took us all of three seconds. There were two really good reasons for this. The first is that we wanted to provide a favor that our guests wouldn't have to cart home and most likely be shoveled away in an attic or garage to collect dust. The second reason is that we got to share something we loved, a local treat, with all our friends and family. Our truffles were put into little boxes, tied with ribbon, and we put little labels with our name and the date on them. They were a huge success! (My bride's maids particularly loved them because we got to nibble on the extras as we were prepping them.) An added bonus was that because we had gotten a couple of varieties, it got people talking as they traded around for new flavors or their new and quickly established favorites.

But that's nothing compared to some her other wonderful creations. Want a really unique and tasty wedding favor. Try the Bride and Groom Brownie Pops.

Earlier I had mentioned cupcakes as an alternative to a traditional wedding cake. Check out this stunning creation.

Her confections are creative works of art in their own right. They are great to share for just about any occasion. And Lisa herself is a sweet as the treats she makes.

Yummy!
